University of the Humanities is based in the Sukhbator district of the Mongolian capital Ulanbaator.

It was founded as the Russian Language Institute of Mongolia State University before gaining autonomy in 1982 as the Russian Language Teaching Institute. It branched out into other languages, becoming the Institute of Foreign Languages in 1990, then added fresh disciplines and the right to teach masters and doctoral programmes. It became the University of the Humanities in 1999.

Students are spread across schools of business, information and commercial management, international relations and social studies, and languages and culture. Between them they offer 18 undergraduate options, evening courses in accounting and foreign language translation in English and Chinese, seven master's programmes and doctorates in 10 fields.

Since it became a partner in the TACTIC project in 2015, it has developed 47 international partnerships in 14 different countries. 

Research priorities include neuropsychology and positive psychology, neuropsychology, linguistics and e-learning, factors affecting consumer decision-making in digital marketing, modern trends in human resource management, contemporary issues in organisation behaviour, and using virtual environments in education.

The Student Development Centre has been involving students in social and humanitarian projects and the development of skills since 2015.
