St Mary’s University, Twickenham is located in Twickenham, London. It was founded in 1850 by the Catholic Poor Schools Committee to train sufficient teachers to educate the growing population of poor children in London.

It was first established in Brook Green, Hammersmith, with just six male students. With the cooperation of the Congregation of the Mission, the university flourished and outgrew their campus in the 1920’s. The university now has two campuses: the main campus on Strawberry Hill House grounds and the Teddington Lock campus. In 2014, St Mary’s College was awarded university status by the Privy Council, leading to its new title as St Mary’s University.

St Mary’s University offers a range of course levels; undergraduate, postgraduate, foundation, PGCE and teacher training, short courses, and CPD. Courses can be studied in business and law; education and teaching; humanities, theology and ethics; media, communications and creative arts; social, political and behavioural sciences; sport health and science. Students can also choose to integrate a placement into their studies to achieve industry experience before finishing their degree.

Sport is an important component to life at St Mary’s, with competitive sports clubs, coaching and volunteering opportunities, sport scholarships and world-class facilities.

There is a professional media-suite, equipped to aid students in filmmaking, TV, radio and online broadcasting. Students have the opportunity to study abroad while at the university. St Mary’s has partnerships with several universities in the US, Australia, Europe, India and China.

St Mary’s prides itself on giving students a greater London experience with a small village twist. Riverside towns, Kingston and Richmond are a short bus-ride away from campus, allowing students a wealth of entertainment, music venues, pubs and theatres. The train to Waterloo takes just half an hour, allowing students access to central London with ease.
