Basic information and contact details for Reitaku University

institution

Reitaku University is a private university situated in the small city of Kashiwa in Chiba, Japan. Originally established in 1935 as Moralogy College, the university became Reitaku University in 1959.

The word "reitaku" meaning "clear brooks" is derived from a passage in classic Chinese literature. It is associated with the idea that brooks close together share water and sunlight, which helps plants nearby to grow. The university uses this concept at the heart of its philosophy. It believes that an individual seeking personal improvement should spend time with like-minded friends under the guidance of an excellent teacher. Reitaku University encourages spreading knowledge and kindness in the same way that the sun spreads light and warmth.

Another important part of the university’s ethos is to provide "education based on the unity of knowledge and morality". It hopes to achieve this by offering courses that help students to develop intellectually and also personally. The founder of Moralogy College, Chikuro Hiroike, adopted this philosophy to ensure that graduates were respected and trusted in their field of work.

The university has two undergraduate faculties including foreign studies, and economics and business administration. Students have the choice to study in English or Japanese. Reitaku also offers a number of graduate courses and a Japanese language programme.

With a specific focus on international perspective, the university has an active study abroad programe. It has partnerships with nearly 50 universities in 18 countries. This provides students with the opportunity to study in a foreign country and to experience multiculturalism first hand.
