Basic information and contact details for Ghana Communication Technology University

institution

Ghana Communication Technology University, located in the Ghanaian capital of Accra, was originally a training centre for telecoms operatives. It was established in 1948 by the British colonial administration, to train staff for the Ghana Telecom Company.

As the only institution of its kind in the region, the Ghana Telecom Training Centre also trained operatives for the military, civil aviation, the maritime industry, the police and meteorological services, throughout British West Africa.

It was upgraded to a university in 2005, and renamed as Ghana Communication Technology University when it formally separated from the Ghana Telecom Company.

Today, it has three undergraduate faculties: engineering, business and computing and information systems. It takes students from undergraduate through to doctoral level.

The university offers study-abroad programmes. It also runs internal competitions, designed to showcase students’ work.
