NMIS seeks to appoint a Workshop Technician to support the operation of specialised equipment within its workshops. You will be primarily responsible for the set-up, operation and maintenance of machine shop CNC 5-Axis equipment used in relation to the delivery of industrial and academic research programmes.

To be considered for this role you will be educated to a minimum of HNC level or equivalent; or have relevant work experience in a similar role. You will have significant knowledge and expertise in multi axis CNC machining including: setting, programming and operation, and be able to interpret engineering drawings. You will have excellent troubleshooting skills, including a methodical approach to solving complex problems, with limited guidance. You will have an ability to work autonomously, prioritising and coordinating your own workload and making decisions with minimum supervision in order to meet project deadlines and you will have the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Whilst not essential for the role, applications are welcomed from candidates with experience of supporting production, and research and development manufacturing requirements.

About the opportunity

The Matilda Centre is seeking a driven senior leader to join the Centre Executive as the Centre Operations Manager. The Operations Manager leads the Centre professional services team providing exceptional operational support services to academic and professional researchers, and plays a key role as a member of the Centre Executive, driving the strategic development of the Matilda Centre and its integration with University and Faculty services, activities, policies and governance.

Reporting to the Head, FMH Centres and Affiliated Institutes, in the Faculty of Medicine and Health, the Matilda Centre Operations manager is a key contributor to the strategic and operational development of FMH Centres, and plays an important role in driving change that has significant impacts on the daily operational and research tasks across FMH Centres. Responsible for Matilda Centre Operations, the Centre Operations Manager works closely with the Matilda Centre Director to deliver the Centre strategy.

Your key responsibilities will be to:


	provide leadership support and strategic advice on the development of the Centre, with consideration of the operational implications of strategic and other initiatives as a key member of the Centre Executive
	ensure the provision of the highest quality research support services across a broad suite of needs, including office management, research administrative support, budget and contract support, and engaging and connecting Centre researchers with University and Faculty processes and support teams
	ensure the operations of the Matilda Centre are undertaken to the highest standards, including operations to University and external policies and governance
	oversight and control of the Centre budget, providing timely and accurate information to the Executive to support budget planning and expenditure decisions
	undertake centre reporting and other activities required by the University Centres policy and Faculty requirements for Centre reporting
	lead and inspire staff, focusing on performance management, professional development, and career growth
	promote workplace safety, ensure legislative compliance, and mitigate risks effectively
	support projects and programs aimed at improving FMH Centre operations, and ensure Centre compliance with Faculty processes and effective engagement with Faculty support teams.

We are delighted to welcome applications for the position of Research Fellow within the Integrating Citizen Deliberation for Impact (i4i) project, an international collaboration to examine the variety of ways that national and subnational European climate assemblies have been differently connected to their respective political-administrative systems and how this shapes their polity, policy and political impacts (see:?https://i4i-project.com/).

The post holder will develop the cross-cutting conceptual schemes and empirical analyses that unite the different work packages of the project. This will primarily include carrying out a comparative analysis of the integration and impacts of European climate assemblies and writing academic outputs that conceptualise integration and impacts of public participation, as well as presenting the findings of the empirical analysis of the relationship between the two. This work will be carried out under the supervision of Rikki Dean (principal investigator of the project).

This research position will be based in the Department of Politics and International Relations within the Faculty of Social Sciences, at the University of Southampton where Dr Dean is based. You will join a team of researchers based across the UK, Belgium, Germany and Poland, as well as a supportive Department that contains the largest concentration of democratic innovations scholars in Europe.

To be successful in either role you will have completed your PhD in a relevant discipline before April 2025 (or equivalent professional qualifications). You will have facility with building theoretical frameworks, as well as an interest in mixed-methods research; have the ability to plan and organise work independently and as part of a team; and have the ability to write research presentations and papers for peer review publication. Knowledge and experience of the subfield of democratic innovations and with using Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) is desirable.

The Research Fellow post is full-time for a fixed term until 30/04/2027 with a negotiable start date, but with an early start date being preferred.

Description

The Public Health Research Center (PHRC) at New York University Abu Dhabi seeks to recruit a talented, motivated and experienced Research Engineer with expertise in creating, developing, testing and maintaining high quality applications and in particular Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS). The role of the selected applicant will focus on supporting the Center’s mission by developing a comprehensive system allowing the adequate and effective management of samples and all its associated data. The PHRC aims to understand the basis of health outcomes and traits related to the most common non-communicable diseases in the UAE by investigating and integrating when possible epidemiological, clinical and genetic data.

The appointed applicant will be in charge of creating, developing, configuring and maintaining a LIMS system customized to the needs of the PHRC research projects including but not limited to sample and associated data inventories, development for rapid, efficient and automated data tracking and retrieval workflows. The successful candidate will also contribute to write documentation for the developed tools, pipelines/workflows, SOPs and resources available. The candidate will have to integrate into the existing team of scientists and participate and lead training sessions of the PHRC team when needed. The candidate must have excellent organizational and communication skills with a high level of proficiency in English and the ability to work effectively in a team as well as individually.

?REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS


	Master’s degree in Computer science, Information Systems or equivalent;
	A minimum of 2 years of related working experience in LIMS environment development, or related environment
	Experience with validation procedures within a software development environment (user acceptance testing, issue tracking/reporting/testing etc.).
	A minimum of 3 years in SDLC (software development life cycle).
	Experience in both Windows and Linux OS.
	A minimum of 3 years’ experience in relational databases (e.g. MySQL) and developing front-end database interfaces.
	A minimum of 3 years’ experience in at least one of the following languages Perl/Python/Java/PHP.
	Experience in server administration and maintenance.
