Ecotec University, founded in 2007, is situated across two cities in Ecuador: Samborondón and Guayaquil.
The university initially began with four faculties: marketing and communication, tourism and hospitality, systems and telecommunications, and economic sciences. But in 2008, the faculty of law was created, increasing the demand for both students and space. This led to the development of new buildings in Samborondón and, in 2014, classes began on the new campus.
Within these five faculties, Ecotec offers specialist degrees at both bachelor’s and master's level.
There are three campuses, each offering an array of services to students, including the university’s own transport service called ECO-BUSES.
In recent years, Ecotec has added to its campus in Samborondón and built up its sports complex, which houses a gym, crossfit area, boxing ring, a jogging track, Olympic pool as well as soccer, tennis and volleyball courts.
With a strong focus on award and recognition, the university has given awards to plenty of notable people recognising their extensive experience in their own individual fields. Those of note include filmmaker Sebastián Cordero and journalist Patricia Estupi?án.
Ecotec also has partnerships with other universities worldwide offering students, who study certain subjects, the chance to spend a year studying abroad. In addition, students who take the opportunity to study at Ecotec are given the chance to take a Spanish language course for non-native speakers as part of the exchange.
The university is also the first in the country to achieve carbon neutral certification, which is achieved by calculating carbon footprint and reducing it to zero through a combination of measures in-house and supporting external emission reduction projects.
