Courtauld Institute of Art is located in King’s Cross, London, England. It is an independent college of the University of London.

It was founded in 1932 by Samuel Courtauld, alongside Sir Robert Witt and Viscount Lee of Fareham, who shared a common aim to improve the understanding of the visual arts in England.

The Courtauld Institute offers a range of degree programs to its students; undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and doctorate levels. Courses include: history of art, conservation of wall painting, curating the art museum, and the conservation of easel paintings among others. Students can also choose to study abroad as part of their studies at Courtauld.

Notable alumni includes Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan of Jordan, executive editor of Tate Publishing Jacky Klein, former deputy mayor of London Nicky Gavron, and novelist and art historian Anita Brookner.

Students have access to a range of societies in their Student Union, including: world art, film, business of art, yoga, and many more. Courtauld’s students also have access to the University of London’s Student Central, which has cafés, bars, nightclubs, a gym and swimming pool to enjoy.

The Courtauld Gallery has an extensive collection of French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings, started by Samuel Courtauld himself. Works by Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, Vincent Van Gogh and Peter Paul Rubens are all featured in the gallery.
