Centenary University is a private liberal-arts college in Hackettstown, New Jersey.

It was founded in 1867 by the Newark Conference of the United Methodist Church. It has changed purpose over the years starting of as a coeducational preparatory school, becoming a girl's preparatory school, then a junior college for women and going through more changes to eventually becoming a master degree granting institution.

The main campus is in Hackettstown and there are also two satellite learning centres located in Parsippany and Edison for the adult student programmes.

Students from more than 20 nations make up the student body at Centenary University.

The university offers a range of undergraduate courses including accounting, criminal justice, equine science, fashion and psychology. Graduate programmes are available for business, counselling, education and leadership and public administration.

Centenary University teams participate in eight NCAA Division III intercollegiate sports and sports teams are known as the Cyclones. Men's sports includes baseball, basketball, lacrosse and softball and women's sports includes basketball, softball and volleyball among others.

The campus is close to a number of lakes and rivers where students can go fishing, canoeing and walking. Students are also able to take day trips to the Jersey Shore, New York, Philadelphia or the Delaware Gap National Recreation Centre.

Keen skiiers can take advantage of the nearby ski resorts in northern New Jersey and and the Pocconos area of Pennsylvania.

There are also a number of companies that have offices in Northern New Jersey such as Mars Chocolate.

Notable alumni include Debbie Harry, the lead singer of Blondie and Brian Phillip Davis, a film editor.
