Bezmi?lem Vakif University is a private educational and healthcare organisation in Istanbul, Turkey.
Founded in 2010 by the Directorate General of Foundations, the university is named after Bezmi?lem Sultan, the second wife of Ottoman Sultan Mahmut II.
The university has expanded to include over 500 academic staff and over 3,000 students over four faculties: medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and health sciences. There is also a Vocational School for Health Services. We give education to about 3.500 students and provide clinical services to 8000 patients daily with our two main hospitals and two outpatient clinics on each side of Istanbul.
Institutes at the university include health sciences, forensic science, life sciences and biotechnology, and gastroenterology.
Teaching is conducted 70 per cent in Turkish and 30 per cent in English. In addition to the main campus of Fatih, there are two other campuses in Ey¨¹p and Sultangazi.
English taught courses are available in all four faculties. In the health sciences faculty, English courses are available in physiotherapy and rehabilitation, and nursing.
In 1845, the Bezmialem Foundation University School of Medicine Hospital was founded by Bezmialem Sultan to serve poor Muslims. The hospital¡¯s former name, Vak?f Gureba Hospital, ,was changed in 2010 after it became affiliated with the newly founded university.
The university has completed over 400 research projects, with over 200 ongoing.
There are over 30 student clubs, 10 sport teams and approximately 10 art and instrument courses.
The International Relations Office was established in the university¡¯s first year of foundation to support international partnership connections. It organises orientation programmes for incoming students and cultural activities and a buddy system to aid the integration of international students into campus life.
