Tune in to silence

July 12, 2018

In Patricia Owen-Smith’s article on the value of classroom silence and contemplative education (“In silence, teaching gold”, Opinion, 28 June), she says that “before I do anything else, I begin our class with the sound of a Tibetan singing bowl”.

It is worth pointing out that Tibetan singing bowls are available in every centrally timetabled room here at the University of Manchester, but they do need to be booked 24 hours in advance in the usual way through audio-visual services. Virtual bowls are available 24/7 via Creative Commons links.
