Now that Article 50 has been triggered, the government must ensure that we continue to enhance and safeguard the UK’S world-leading research, innovation and higher education systems. Our continued partnership with Europe on matters of research and innovation must not only be protected, but we must also invest to make it stronger.
We attract some of the finest research talent in Europe – and from around the world, for that matter. It is essential that the government negotiate the right for European Union research and higher education staff, those currently employed and those accepting employment in the UK, as well as their dependants, to remain indefinitely.
We also strongly advocate that any discussions in relation to higher education and research take place at the earliest opportunity. This will ensure that the UK remains a competitive environment and attractive proposition for the world’s most talented researchers.
