Video: Research value should be clear to public, says former home secretary

Universities must do a better job of showing how their research results in real-life benefits for society, Charles Clarke has argued

Universities have a duty to show society how their research is tackling shared challenges and contributing to the public good, Charles Clarke, a former British MP and home secretary, has said. Speaking from the Times Higher Education Research Excellence Summit: Asia-Pacific, Mr Clarke, who is also on the advisory board of the Plus Alliance, urged universities to shake off their “ivory tower mentality” and establish wide-ranging partnerships across all sectors of society.
