However, there are also some dissenting voices around.

At Sheffield, the march is in full flow.
The UCU is following preparations for its rally in central London.
They’re out in the Midlands…
…and in the North West…
…and at universities across the UK. Solidarity was on show at some picket lines, as other unions stepped in to help out.

The strike has left some students feeling less than sympathetic to the strikers’ cause…
…while others were less concerned about the closure of their university.
Some were simply trying to get on with their own work.
Many university staff tweeted that they would not be getting involved with the industrial action…
…although others were keen to show their support, despite not taking part themselves.
There were pictures that suggested university staff were out in force, like this from Northern Ireland…

…but elsewhere, tweeters reported little disruption.
Others made clear why they were taking action…
…including the various union branches.
