The vast majority of tweets are sent by humans. However, lurking in the corridors, libraries and grounds of the UK’s universities are a number of animals, buildings and even ghosts that have signed up to the micro-blogging social network to keep their followers informed. Here are some of the more unusual university Twitter accounts.

1. The glass jar of moles ()

According to their Twitter profile, the moles “proudly reside” in a jar at the Grant Museum of Zoology, University College London.
