With regard to Keith Burnett’s experiences on his trade mission to India, I found a similar situation when visiting the country in July and speaking to agents who recruit for UK higher education, and alumni and business people as well (“‘I feel truly ashamed.’ Keith Burnett on Theresa May’s trade mission to India”, Opinion, 17 November).
The message was that Indian students are increasingly sophisticated in their decision making. This is an expensive investment for them and often their families. They will go where they think they will get the best all-round value, not only in terms of quality of education but also job prospects. Increasingly this means the US, Canada and Australia.
