Rainy days' CASH
A team of environmental scientists from the University of Hertfordshire is seeking sponsorship for an eight-week expedition to the rain forest of Guyana in South America. They aim to ensure that logging companies are not exceeding their felling quotas and to conserve the rainforests. The team will work alongside counterparts from the University of Guyana which will enable an exchange of computer skills and field-study techniques. Anyone wishing to help sponsor or contribute equipment should contact: Ross Carter, Division of Environmental Sciences, University of Hertfordshire, College Lane, Hatfield, AL10 9AB. Tel: 01707 284508.
Organisations with a China Interest
The Great Britain-China Centre is producing the 3rd edition of its directory, the only one to cover a wide range of subjects relating to China. Entries will be divided into two sections: institutions with centres of expertise in any discipline relating to China or extensive research links with China (full listing to include details of activities); institutions with a China desk or some form of exchange link with a Chinese counterpart (name and address listing only). GB-CC has also set up a database of institutions and individuals involved in research on China and Chinese studies and would like to hear from anyone involved in this area.
Please contact: Anna Johnston, Editor of the Directory, Great Britain-China Centre, 15 Belgrave Square, London SW1X 8PS. Tel: 0171 235 6696/fax 0171 245 6885/email gbcc@gn.apc.org. The copy deadline is April 3, 1995.
