Keith Smith, former head of department of the Scottish Agricultural College and latterly at the Institute of Ecology and Resource Management has been appointed professorial fellow.
The school of nursing, midwifery and health visiting has appointed the following professors: Charles Brooker will work jointly with the university and the Mental Health Service of Central Manchester Healthcare; Karen Luker, health services research, in the centre for primary care research; Jackie Oldham, associate dean and head of the research and graduate division, her personal chair recognises her pioneering work in rehabilitation science; Karen Waters, working jointly with the university and the elderly care services of Central Manchester Healthcare NHS Trust.
R. Butler, former professor in the department of geography, University of Western Ontario, Canada, professor of tourism; Alan Robins, director and technical manager of the environmental flow research centre, research chair in environmental fluid mechanics.The following have been promoted to professorships: Ahmet Kondoz, reader in the department of electronic and electrical engineering; Paul Smith, senior lecturer in the department of materials science and engineering; in the school of biological sciences - Michael Bushell, senior lecturer, Jeremy Dale, reader, Ian Kitchen, reader; Anne Judge senior lecturer in linguistic and international studies.
