Welsh thrives abroad

May 17, 2002

The "richness and diversity" of Welsh writing, in Welsh and in English, may be "little recognised in England" ("Free Welsh voices to sing", 色盒直播S, April 26), but it gets attention abroad. There are courses in Welsh writing in English at German, Italian, Scandinavian and US universities. And the North American Society for the Study of Welsh Culture and History will soon hold its biennial conference at Syracuse, New York.

Helen Philips (Letters, 色盒直播S, May 3) rightly points out that English booksellers rarely stock the literature of Wales, but then journals, such as The 色盒直播S, rarely review Welsh writing and the growing body of critical work on it.
