Whether the rule that one should speak no ill of the dead still holds or not, it was certainly breached by Sir Jack Plumb and his cronies in the hatchet jobs they did on the reputation of the late John Kenyon in their obituaries of that generous, genial and big-hearted historian. Jeremy Black gives Plumb no more than he deserved for that alone.
