Founded in 1954, Liepaja University is located in Liepāja, Western Latvia. It’s the largest city in the Kurzeme Region and the third largest city in the country after Riga and Daugavpils.
It was founded as the Liepaja Pedagogical Institute but it received its current name and status of university in 2008. Since 1990, a broad spectrum of non-pedagogical study programmes has been offered.
At Liepaja University, students can gain both undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral degrees within a wide variety of faculties and institutes, including: management and social sciences, science and engineering, humanitarian sciences and arts, pedagogy and social work, educational sciences, science and innovative technologies, humanities and management sciences.
Liepaja University offers five full degree study programmes taught in the English language: computer science, physics, information technology and new media arts.
On campus, students will find a library, which contains over 100,000 different items, including: 80,000 books, 10,000 periodicals, collections of legal documents, dissertations, audio-visual resources and other materials.
On campus, there’s a non-traditional dance studio called Arabesque, which offers dance, Spanish Flamenco and remedial gymnastics classes. Throughout the year, they organise concerts and workshops. As well as a focus on dance, students can join a plethora of other clubs.
The university also has partnerships with other universities worldwide offering students the chance to spend a year studying abroad. Liepaja University also welcomes international students and can find on campus housing.
