Emerging Economies University Rankings 2018
The Times Higher Education Emerging Economies University Rankings 2018 includes only institutions in countries classified by the FTSE as “advanced emerging”, “secondary emerging” or “frontier”.
?Now in its fifth year, the 2018 ranking parts with the ‘BRICS’ acronym in the title to recognise the strength and potential of a diverse range of emerging economies.
The rankings use the same 13 performance indicators as the 色盒直播 World University Rankings to judge institutions on their teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. But they are recalibrated to reflect the development priorities of universities in emerging economies.

China continues to dominate the ranking, claiming 63 – or one in every six – positions in the table, up from 52 last year. Peking University and Tsinghua University rank in first and second place respectively for the fifth consecutive year.
?India remains the second most-represented nation with 42 institutions, up from 27. It is topped by the Indian Institute of Science at 13th (up from 14th), but the majority of its previously ranked institutions have fallen places.
?Russia has also increased its representation, with 27 institutions ranked, up from 24, and many of these have made significant progress.
?Meanwhile, a trend of decline cuts across Latin American, Asean and Eastern European countries, despite many increasing their overall representation.
?Brazil retains its status as the third most-represented nation, but nearly all its universities have dropped positions, largely because of economic and political turmoil in the country.
?Fifty-one universities across 11 Eastern European countries make the ranking – up from 45 last year – but just three progress up the table.
?The ranking includes more than 350 universities, up from 300 institutions last year, from 42 countries across four continents.
