Emmanuel?Macron has announced a major reform of French healthcare,?with?significant implications for universities.
Within the context of the general plan, known as “Ma santé 2022”, specific initiatives are designed to make medical education more responsive to the needs of the whole country.
The president’s broad vision has now been refined by the ministries responsible for health and higher education, and full details will be set out in legislation over the coming months.
It is expected that the annual cap on the number of medical students will be removed, starting in 2020.
Measures will be introduced to diversify the academic background of students, while universities will be expected to devote additional efforts to student well-being and to work within a national framework to serve the whole country’s health care needs.
