The four-and-a-half year course, a partnership between the University of Buckingham and Milton Keynes Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, will cost ?35,000 a year - some ?3,000-a-year more than previously expected - placing the total cost of tuition at ?157,500.
The university says that the fees are “within the range of fees being charged by other UK medical schools for overseas students”, adding that admission criteria would also be “comparable to the UK’s other medical schools”. However, unlike other medical schools, there will be no cap on the number of international students.
Terence Kealey, vice-chancellor of the University of Buckingham and a qualified medical doctor himself, said: “We intend to provide high-quality students with a first-rate, caring, medical education.”
Dean of medicine, Karol Sikora, added: “Five years ago we started a postgraduate degree course in internal medicine, and we now have more than 50 doctors studying on this course….with the launch of the MB ChB undergraduate degree, we have a complete medical training programme.”
The university will accept direct applications from “well-qualified applicants” from September 1, 2013.
