23rd International Shipwreck Conference: Shipwrecks, Diving and Marine Archaeology . The conference is described as being organised by wreck enthusiasts for wreck enthusiasts. Plymouth University, February 5.

History in British Education . It aims to stimulate debate on the position of historyin the British education curriculum. Speakers include David Starkey, Sean Lang and David Eastwood. Hosted by the Institute of Historical Research at the University of London, February 14-15.

Anglo-American Relations from the Pilgrim Fathers to the Present Day . The aim is to understand how political, social and cultural differences have interacted over 300 years. This is a joint Neale and Commonwealth Fund conference. University College London, February 17-19.

American Association for the Advancement of Science . This year's annual meeting focuses on the nexus: where science meets society. Washington, February 17-21.

Women and Politics . Annual conference of the Political Studies Association. Includes papers on "masculine" women and "feminine" men in the British House of Commons and an analysis of the manifestos of the three main British parties, 1987-2001, to establish the significance of women's issues. Bristol University, February 19.
