Office for Public Appointments

Leonard Peach was appointed as the first commissioner at the Office for Public Appointments and as a civil service commissioner on December 19. He is former chairman of the Police Complaints Authority, and is currently chairman of the Policy Studies Institute and the University of Westminster, vice chairman of Morley College, president of the Association of Business Schools, and an honorary fellow of the University of Greenwich.

The University of Wales College, Newport

The university has appointed Claire Curtis-Tansley, chartered engineer and former head of strategy and business planning at Birmingham City Council, as dean of business and engineering, heading a new faculty.

Royal Institution

Caroline Graham-Brown, chief executive of St Martin in the Fields, has been appointed operations director at the Royal Institution.

Queen Margaret College, Edinburgh

Elizabeth Maginnis, convenor and spokesperson for the City of Edinburgh Council's education committee, has been appointed to the governing body.

Joan Stringer, principal of the college, has been appointed to the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority.

University of Southampton

Peter Barker, director of executive education at the Theseus Institute in Sophia Antipolis, has been appointed director of the development trust.

Imperial College

Michael Whitehouse, professor of medical oncology at the University of Southampton and director of the Cancer Research Campaign Wessex Regional Oncology unit, has been appointed vice-principal (undergraduate clinical education) of the college's school of medicine.
